Summer Nails

Oh, goodness - that photo really makes my finger look chubby! Let's blame it on the heat!

Yesterday I gave my fingers a little Barry M summer makeover using Berry Ice Cream and Rose Quartz. I received Rose Quartz as a present and wasn't convinced, I thought it looked a little grannyish in the bottle - but! When I put it on, it makes my heart sing! It' so pretty and subtle yet not that subtle. I just think it's lovely. Plus, it satisfies my love for rose gold too, as the hues are very similar!

What's on your nails right now?

Kisses,

Nail Art Theft

As previously mentioned, my camera is broken.
Now, being a blogger being an aspiring blogger I understand that a camera is pretty essential to presenting an enjoyable blog.
But, being a student I understand that I cannot just go and buy anything my heart desires at the drop of a hat. (Or the drop of a camera in this case, dropped and then trampled on - boo.)

However, I will not let this tragedy prevent me from sharing something with you.

I am going to steal borrow from another blogging site...! But I promise, you'll think the crime will be worth it when I show you the goodies!

So without further ado, here is an amazing nail art tutorial from The Beauty Department.

See! Didn't I tell you it would be worth the theft?!

The Beauty Department is a blog with contributions from various people, including star of The Hills Lauren Conrad!

As I'm getting in the mood for V-day I thought I would try this out.

I painted the base with Barry M's Strawberry Ice Cream and used selotape instead of Washi Tape - which I've never actually heard of. Is this an American thing? - And to do the heart detail I painted over with Barry M's inspiringly titled Red Glitter.

The selotape worked pretty well and only took a tiny bit of the nail polish off. I think this might have been because I only painted the base layer a few hours before I did the heart.

So if you can't get your hands on this Washi Tape, do not fear!

My housemate S said she thought it was cute but that it would be awful to actually wear on V-day.

What do you think? Too cheesy?

Strawberry Ice Cream and Snowflakes

Last night I had a quiet night in.

I cosied up under the covers with a hot milk, Curly Wurly and watched Crazy, Stupid, Love. (Ryan Gosling anyone?)

Because I love to multi-task I also painted my nails.

I’ve been looking forward to using my new Models Own Snowflake for a while now and decided that mid-November is the perfect time.

I only wanted to put Snowflake on an accent nail, so I did some research and came across this photo from Khloe Kardashian’s blog, she’s using Martha Stewart glitter but it closely resembles Snowflake.

So, I tried Snowflake over a deep blackcurrant, like Khloe, but the sparkles turned a Halloween-ish green hue which was just not what I wanted at all.

Next, I tried it Strawberry Ice Cream by Barry M, which I blogged about in one of my first ever posts (Here). Aside from the great name it’s also a great colour, a slightly pale ‘Barbie pink’.

I think this looks really nice and very girly!

Candy Shop Dupe? (Not Quite)

If you've visited Hummingbird before, you'll know that I love Deborah Lippmann, especially 'Candy Shop'. Now, I have to be honest, I got a bit excited and ahead of myself with this post - I really thought I had managed to concoct a dupe of 'Candy Shop' but upon uploading the pics and having a look at piccys online I realise that I was slightly mistaken.

But, before this I had been over the moon, like deliriously happy because each time I looked down at my nails it looked like 'Candy Shop'! Yay for me!

So how did I make this beautiful nail? The base was 2 coats of Barry M Strawberry Ice Cream (See my post about that here) and on top I put my housemate's New York Colour 'Lights, Camera, Glitter' - but I think it's quite old because I've not seen in around. (Sad face)

However, as I said - on closer inspection it just doesn't look the same. The pink needs to be more of a dusty rose pink and the sparkles just aren't magic enough!

'Dupe'
Real

The real thing is just sooo much better

So I had been super excited about these nails (hence all 12 photos - sorry!) but I've got to hand it to Deborahh Lippmann, she's got the magic touch.

Red Glitter Nails

I've had Barry M's Red Glitter nail polish for a while now and I can't quite make my mind up about it.

I find it quite tricky to apply and it can be a pain to take off too. It takes about three coats to get it looking good, but it's hard to cover the whole nail (although that might just be me!). Also it chips easily, even with a few top coats.

Overall, I do quite like it but if you're looking for a sparkly nail polish there are some much better ones out there.

New Barry M Nail Paints!

My new Barry M nail polishes arrived today!! I absolutely adore Barry M nail paints; they’re the best that I’ve come across. I already own a few of them, but I can never just buy one! I usually buy them in store but in an attempt to reduce my spending I bought them online – however, this didn’t really save me any money…

I was a bit nervous about buying nail paint online for a couple of reasons, firstly I thought they might break in the post and secondly I thought the colours might not be truly represented on the website.

However, I had no need to worry as they were packaged in a cute little jiffy bag and were securely bubble wrapped!

These are the two I went for:

Hologram Hexograms
Strawberry Ice Cream

As you can see I love the sparkly nail look so I’m very excited about the Hologram paint and I think the Strawberry Ice Cream will look cute and in theme with spring! But also as it is so cold at the moment I thought if I mixed the two together it would look like sparkly frosting on a cupcake!

Strawberry Ice Cream
Hologram Hexograms

My only slight criticism would be that delivery was quite expensive I thought. In total, with VAT added the delivery cost amounted to £2.95 which meant that all in all for two nail paints it cost £8.93 which is a lot, especially when considering that the paints are only £2.99 each!

But that is my only criticism, other than that I really would recommend purchasing Barry M nail paints!

If I have any readers, have you tried Barry M nail paints? Which are your favourite?
